Healing happens in connection

Family therapy at Pathways Within supports healing within the relationships that shape us most — whether those are with biological family, chosen family, or the unique constellation of people who make up your support system.

We understand that “family” doesn’t look the same for everyone. That’s why our approach to family therapy is flexible, inclusive, and grounded in deep respect for your lived experience. Whether you're navigating generational conflict, setting new boundaries, or working through a crisis, our goal is to help your family system move toward healthier patterns and deeper connection.

At Pathways Within, we work with all types of families, including those with multiple generations living together and families formed through community, friendship, or shared identity. These relationships can bring deep meaning — and sometimes unique challenges.

Our therapists are attuned to the dynamics that can emerge across age groups, cultural perspectives, or identity-based differences. We help families navigate these complexities with compassion, humility, and a commitment to helping each member feel seen, heard, and valued.

FAQs about Family Therapy

  • Anyone who is part of your family system. This might include parents, children, partners, siblings, grandparents, or chosen family. We welcome all configurations and family structures. Therapy may involve everyone together, smaller groupings, or individual meetings as needed.

  • That’s okay. It’s common for some members to feel unsure about therapy. You can begin with those who are open to participating. Often, as changes start happening, others become more willing to join. Your therapist can help navigate those dynamics with care.

  • Family therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including communication challenges, parenting stress, loss, transitions (such as divorce or blending families), mental health concerns affecting one or more members, and cultural or intergenerational conflict. We also work with families seeking to strengthen their bond proactively.

  • Absolutely. We honor all family identities — whether related by blood, marriage, adoption, or shared life. Chosen families, polyamorous constellations, LGBTQIA+ families, and other nontraditional structures are always welcome here.

  • Your therapist is a neutral guide who helps your family understand patterns, identify strengths, and improve communication. We don’t take sides or assign blame. Instead, we create space for each person to be heard, and for the family to practice new ways of connecting and growing together.
